June 5th, 2025
Right, if there’s one sound that hits you straight in the chest and gets your feet tapping before your brain catches up, it’s the deep, joyful boom of Cook Islands drumming. This June, we’re in for a proper treat. The Tangi Kaara Primary & Secondary Schools Drumming Competition is back, and trust us—it’s going to be LOUD, PROUD, and packed with energy that makes your heart thump along to the beat.
Where? National Auditorium, Tupapa
When? Wednesday 11 June & Thursday 12 June 2025
Nothing beats seeing our next generation of drummers absolutely light up the stage and it's also a load of good fun!
We’re talking about kids from across the island—primary and secondary students—bringing their all to the pātē, pa’u, and bass drums. It’s raw, rhythmic, and ridiculously impressive. If you’ve never experienced it before, imagine this: you walk in and the whole auditorium is buzzing. As the drummers kick off, your chest shakes with every beat. The crowd’s clapping, and everyone's smiling. It’s not just a show—it’s a celebration of culture and community. This is how we pass on our stories, our mana, and that unmistakable island pride.
Here’s something to make the night even better—discounted tickets for anyone using E-Moni.
Adult tickets: $8 (usually $10)
Family pass (2 adults + 2 kids): $26 (was $30)
You’ll need to grab your tickets at Vodafone Cook Islands Customer Care. If you’re not on E-Moni yet, no dramas. Just bring your photo ID and your phone—they’ll get you sorted on the spot, easy as.
This event’s a biggie, with whānau showing up for their tamariki and schools bringing their full support crew. So if you want a good seat (and maybe a hotdog before the show starts), roll in early, say kia orāna to a few mates, and soak it all in.
At Polynesian Car Rentals, we’re all about exploring the island with ease—and yes, that includes rocking up to community gems like this one. We reckon events like the Tangi Kaara drumming comp are what island life is all about: culture, connection, and that infectious, foot-stomping rhythm. So come along and feel the beat with us. You’ll leave with a full heart, ringing ears, and maybe even a new appreciation for the power of a really well-timed drum solo.
